The University of Padua, founded in 1222, is one of the oldest and largest in Italy, counting more than 70,000 enrolled students, 6,000 teachers, 8 Schools, and more than 2,500 technicians and administrative units.

The Career Service of the University of Padua, founded in 1997, is a central office and its aim is to guide students and new graduates in the professional world and manage internships, trainings in Italy and abroad, EU Programmes, such as Erasmus Student Placements, Leonardo da Vinci, and others. It works jointly with firms, private and public institutions and professional associations. The office counts 20 staff employees and is organised in 4 main sections:

  • Jobs and internships in Italy/abroad;
  • Career Guidance (professional guidance, F2F meetings, events to present job opportunities in specific areas, seminars, fairs, company presentations, etc.);
  • Observatory on the local labour market that examines employers’ needs for academic competences and monitors the quality of graduates' jobs and new trends in the local job market;
  • Counselling on careers.

Recently the Career Service of the University of Padua has been greatly involved in the identification of methodologies aimed at the recognition of qualifications as well as in projects on virtual mobility for traineeships and skills portfolio.

MELIUS, Italy

MELIUS (International Mobility and Employment) s.r.l. provides services and research in guidance, career development, and training, and contributes to social development by designing and developing tools, research and services in cooperation with public and private organisations in Italy and in Europe.

Through our activities, we contribute to a dynamic and inclusive labour market, able to favour technological and process innovation for the professional fulfilment of people.

The MELIUS staff expertise encompasses several complementary research and consultancy fields in social development, such as:

  • Youth entrepreneurship and employability,

Since its establishment, Melius has been working, in close cooperation with key players in the field of social welfare, in the field of guidance for the Province of Bologna, delivering guidance paths for different target of users: adults in search of a better job, unemployed people, youngsters, disadvantaged users.

Since 2011 to date, Melius has managed the career guidance service at the Alma Mater Studiorum, University of Bologna, providing career guidance to higher education students, individually and by means of groups and workshops.
Since 2013 to date, Melius, in partnership with associations of enterprises and other stakeholders in the Region Emilia Romagna (Italy), provides entrepreneurship pathways for young people, and coaching for young entrepreneurs.
Melius participates national, European and international networks in its fields of work.

KU Leuven, Belgium

Founded in 1425, KU Leuven is one of the oldest Universities in Europe and the largest in Flanders. The University caters around 40,000 students each year and has more than 10,000 staff members.

The unit of KU Leuven that will be participating in the project is the Educational Development Unit. Since 1977, this unit has built up a long tradition of academic development to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the research-intensive University KU Leuven is. A variety of strategies is used (as well towards academic staff, educational developers from faculties as program managers). Most of these focus on instructional design of courses and curricula to support student learning. The Educational Development Unit groups a team of educational developers and technologists, playing an important role in helping to ensure that the University maintains its reputation for high quality teaching and learning. The Unit is responsible for supporting a wide portfolio of activities aimed at enhancing teaching and learning practices. One of its activities is to provide pedagogic advice, guidance, encouragement and support on the use of technology in teaching and learning to academic staff, to act as change agent in the design, development and delivery of the curriculum and in the development of student support systems and to facilitate access to expertise, services and resources relating to technology-supported learning.

Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iaşi, Romania

Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iaşi is the oldest higher education institution in Romania. Founded in 1218 the University of Salamanca (USAL) is the oldest University in Spain and one of the oldest higher education institutions in Europe. Its nine campuses are located in five different Spanish towns. More than 30.000 undergraduate and graduate students register each year in more than sixty undergraduate degrees and more than one hundred graduate programs. The University of Salamanca has always prided itself on its ability to attract students from outside its region and from foreign countries. It is also among the European universities with a large number of incoming Erasmus students every semester.

The University also has many research groups of international excellence in several fields. Indeed, the University is well known for the quality of its research in Biosciences and Languages. Entrepreneurship is promoted through specific programs that provide training, advising, and support for business development ideas and technology transfer.

The University’s Career Office has been working in the past sixteen years to provide students and graduates with information, advice, and guidance on job market search, and one of the main goals of the Career Office has been to promote the graduates employability through soft skills achievement. In the last ten years, the University’s Career Office has organized over two hundred courses and workshops on competencies training. All of these courses have been very highly valued by our students. We have also edited a book on this matter. Our focus is to help students to enhance their employability and their future career development in order to successfully face the different challenges that they will encounter during their professional lives.

This is the main reason why we have joined this project and wish to keep on working on competencies training along with other partner universities.
